Patrick McGranaghan, AIA, LEED AP is a design professional with over 35 years of experience leading design for a wide range of project types. He is an NCARB-certified architect currently licensed to practice in eleven states. Additional state licenses can be acquired subject to new project opportunities.
Patrick began his career designing homes and while he later achieved considerable success in commercial design, he has always maintained a desire to return to a residential practice. Custom designing a home for an individual or family is a cherished and very personal responsibility. It is with those opportunities in mind that Patrick has chosen to focus his time and efforts for the balance of his career.
Patrick grew up in a small town in the northeastern corner of Pennsylvania. His family upbringing included a rich immersion in the arts from an early age. Combining his dual interests in the arts and science, he selected architecture as a career and earned his BArch degree at Penn State University in 1988. His education included study at the University of Florence in Italy.
During summers while at Penn State and following graduation, McGranaghan gained formative experience in the Sandwich, MA office of Grattan Gill, Architect. Known primarily for creating well-designed regional modern homes, Gill’s work melded indigenous Cape Cod cottage design with references to the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, for whom Gill once served as Chief Draftsman.
McGranaghan later moved to Philadelphia in order to gain experience in large scale commercial and institutional projects. Over the course of two decades, Patrick led design teams in senior leadership roles for several award-winning Philadelphia firms.
In 2011, Patrick formed a new firm, Granum A/I with a business partner and the practice enjoyed considerable success designing some of the largest and most prominent work in the Philadelphia region including new headquarter projects for Subaru, Incyte, Novo Nordisk, New Hudson Facades and FMC. Patrick launched McGranaghan Architecture DPC in 2013 with the intention of developing a residential design practice running in parallel with Granum, while sharing operational and staff resources. Patrick sold his ownership interest in Granum to his former business partner in 2021 so that he could focus his time solely on McGranaghan Architecture.
When Patrick is not designing homes, he can usually be found engaged in one of his other passions: oil painting, cooking, flyfishing or hiking. Patrick and his wife have two adult children busily pursuing their own career interests.
